This banjo belongs to the family of a fellow musician ( Harmen de Boer) and I’m allowed to play it, since nobody in the family plays banjo and Harmen feels this instrument should be played. It used to be his father’s banjo and he told me that his father bought it at the end of the sixties. There is also some correspondence between his father and the Clifford & Essex Company ( which I never read, by the way ). The serial number of this banjo is 250 and it has been played a lot, so there is quite some wear. It could need some adjustement.
I add a few pictures made with my mobile Phone. So, unfortunately they’re not so good......Hopefully soon Paul can get his hands on a digital camera and update us with beter quality pics.
